Vintage Avanos Terracotta Pot, Cappadocia Turkey

These pots were made in Avanos, a small town in Cappadocia, Turkey where locals have been working clay from the Red River for generations. The pieces offered here date back 80 to 100 years and were traditionally used to hold liquids and fermented foods. Each one arrived as a found object, not a reproduction.

Terracotta from this region has a distinct character: earthy, dense, and shaped by hands that learned the craft through family lines rather than formal training. The slight variations in color, dimension, and surface imperfection are not flaws to minimize but evidence of age and honest use.
